Walking is something healthy and enjoyable family members of multiple generations can do together. It’s also important to help all the members of your family to eat enough produce. While most families have their picky eaters, you can encourage your loved ones to eat more vegetables and fruits with these ideas:

  • Play the odds. Serve foods that are natural favorites, and then load up their vegetable content. Pad pizza with peppers, spinach, eggplant, or artichokes and camouflage the veggies with low-fat cheese. If they’re out of sight, they may be out of mind.

  • Make it fun. Combine apples or celery with protein-rich peanut butter, which kids (and kids at heart) can also use as edible glue for attaching raisins, grape slices, or carrot shavings.

  • Give them a say. Get family members involved in the decision-making process. Let kids pick out their veggie or fruit of choice, either by looking at grocery ads or shopping alongside you. Make dinner preparation a family affair. Try a new recipe, such as KP’s own Dr. Preston Maring’s homemade pasta sauce, and assign older kids to chop veggies and younger kids to mix them. Or plant a garden and invite everyone to take part. Personal investment in the growth and selection of foods can help promote a genuine interest in eating them.

Try these tips to promote produce passion among every member of your family.
