Walking 30 minutes a day, five days a week is great for your mind and body. So take simple precautions for your skin and keep reaping the rewards.

  • Use broad spectrum, (UVA/UVB) sunscreen. Apply SPF 30 about 20 minutes before walking — even on cloudy and cool days, and especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when ultraviolet rays are most harmful. Reapply if you’ve been outside more than two hours or sweating heavily.

  • Use protective clothing and glasses. Wear sunglasses with 100 percent ultraviolet protection and wide-brimmed hats (3 to 4 inches) that shield your face, ears, and neck. Wear a long-sleeved shirt and clothing that covers your ankles.

Sunny or cloudy, walking can boost your spirit and bolster your body.
